A long time ago, back when I was an actress in Chicago, a good friend of mine used to talk about running with the bulls in Pamplona. He was Italian and he’d go on and on in that adorable accent of his about the glory and adventure of the great tradition. How every year, as part of some picturesque Spanish festival, a bunch of lunatics would sprint down the streets of Pamplona ahead of a snorting, slobbering, roaring, raging heard of intensely irritated male cows.
Well, it’s that time of the year again. The most wonderful time of the year, in fact. The time when we kiss goodbye the previous twelve months, throwing open wide our arms and embracing the next dozen. It’s a time for letting go of the old and ringing in the new, for reflection, for honest appraisal, for fresh starts, for…champagne. Lots and lots of champagne.
